1996:  I was 14.
This is the first CT pic I drew in class, my freshman year of highschool.  Aren't they adorably malformed?
Still clueless about anime style.  But at least I'm trying.  Also note the primitive inking.
I rather wish I hadn't drawn on lined paper so much back then.
That's supposed to be the Black Omen.
I think they're supposed to be looking badass.  I'm getting the hang of the Toriyama eyes.
OOoh!  DARK MATTER!!11
Back in 1996 I wrote a fanfic called 'Things Left Undone' which came in three parts.  Here's a really old series of covers for each.
Some chapter heading illustrations for 'Things Left Undone' part 1.  There's some good obscure characters in here, and a really decent Epoch.
1997:
Ayla and her son Krono from "Things Left Undone.'
This one is AWESOME.  I found it folded up in my old CT player's guide.  I've tried to rework it a couple times since then but I just can't get the expression I somehow managed in here.
I'm getting better...  and I love that Nu.
This one's a favorite because it's all GRRL POWER.  Like Totally.
1998:
A series of the characters.  Unfortunately, I never got around to Frog or Crono.  I dunno why I used blue pen on Lucca and Marle.
A neat pencil Frog.
Chibi!  Finally, they're looking Japanese.  It only took me two years, haha.
1999:
Lucca riding a robot.  I think it was just a random pic of Lucca and she needed to be riding something.  However, this one did directly inspire my 2004 piece Robot Rider, down to the pine tree.
'Chrono Trigger Women.'  I've always liked drawing these three in battle together, and I played the game with this party all the time.  This piece directly inspired a 2004 version.
In mid 1999, my CT art spree calmed down a bit for the next couple of years.  I'd spit out one or two when my well was running dry, but otherwise, I was doing a lot of originals or other fanart.  In late 2003 I drew the original 'CuteLucca' picture (I'd had the CuteLucca screen name on AOL from 1997-1999) and, realizing I'd lost my love for CT, started an art and collecting frenzy.  The rest, as they say, is history.
Here we have a colorful and huge (12" x 18") colored pencil 'collage' that's pretty damn decent, actually.  The layout was based on a Final Fantasy 7 image.
1995:  The Chrono Trigger obsession begins.
These three watercolors are 11 x 17".
An 11 x 17"  watercolor illustration for my "Things Left Undone" fanfic.
Another 11 x 17"  watercolor illustration, which still hangs on my wall to this day.
This is the first Chrono Trigger picture I EVER drew.  It's an 11 x 17" 'copy' of a 2 x 1.5" Toriyama illustration I found in Nintendo Power.  Because of the tiny size of my source material and my nonexistant knowledge of the game, you'll find that:

-Frog is now a short black man with a mohawk.
-Magus has green skin and funky-ass tribble hair.
-Magus also has yellow pants, although he does in the Toriyama illustration as well.
-The back of Crono's skull is mysteriously missing.
-The 'watercoloring' is terrible, although part of that is fading due to age.
Fortunately, 1995 also produced some good CT work, namely these ginormous copies of Toriyama's character designs.  I've got all the main characters except Magus-- at the time, I didn't know he was a playable character.  (Remember, this was before the game even came out.)  I figured Lucca was enough to give you the idea of the whole batch.
Oh look!  My first embarrassing forays into Chrono Trigger cosplay. (1995/6-ish)
Thanks to my tendency to packrat, I'm always coming across stuff I forgot I'd ever made.

Modeled by the lovely Svetlana, here we have my very first bit of CT cosplay, which I made before I even knew cosplay, like, existed.  It's Crono's bandana!  It looks okay on the first picture, but the second reveals the absolute ineptness with which it was constructed.  I think I cut up one of my dad's old dress shirts for the material.

You'll notice the sewing techniques are atrocious.  Check out the wavy hemlines, the unconcealed fraying edges,  and the single-ply material.  Smooth!  No wonder Crono was a ladykiller when he had quality stuff like this to wear!
In stark contrast to my much more recent Lucca helmet,  this was the very first one I made, almost a decade ago.  really, it's not bad for a fourteen-year old with limited resources.

It's made almost entirely from cardboard and Elmer's glue, with the brown part being just plain cotton fabric.  The red light doesn't actually light up of course, but it's made from part of a soda bottle painted red.

My favorite part is the inside, which is 'stitched' together with little snips of computer paper.  It's cute, if nothing else!
My first computer art.  Yes!  it's MS Paint.  Not too bad for mouse drawings.
These are some pictures of my bedroom circa 1996, or at least a part of it.  I think the weird little head and feet in the bed were supposed to be cool or something, which is why I took the pics.  But we've already established I was kinda dumb back then.

The real reason I'm posting them is so you can see the huge Chrono Trigger shrine I'd built up on my walls by then.  You can see a few of the paintings I've already featured here framed and hanging on the walls.  Right on the top edge of the pictures, you can see the very bottom edges of the series of six huge paintings of the characters-- color coded and everything.  (You can see Lucca a bit higher up on this page.)

You can also, obviously, see the posters that came with the game right at the head of my bed, there; right beside the bed, hanging from a tack, you can spot my super shitty Crono cosplay headband, which I've already featured here.

You can also see a  bunch of decent-sized exact copies of Toriyama's character designs for all the NPCs-- and Magus-- scattered about on the wall.  Yes, I hand-copied, and colored with crayon, EVERY SINGLE NPC design I had in my Player's Guide.  You can only see a few of them here, but rest assured, I did every single one, and they dotted every wall.  Which reminds me, I still have them somewhere-- I'll lay them out and take a picture for you guys.

Have I proved I'm an irredeemable nerd yet?
