Well it's been about five days since the first *clear* image of Pyramid Head from the upcoming feature film has been released, and I was just so taken with the design that I had to build a custom action figure. Of course. In any case, the first image up there is the publicity shot, and is the only reference I had to work with for my figure; hence, I used a little guesswork in the design of the back of the helmet, since it isn't visible in the pic. It may be wrong when we get to see Pyramid Head in all his 16 mm glory, but until then... I think this turned out pretty sweet. In fact, I was so pleased with it that I spent several days building a custom diorama setup; pictures of which can be seen in the pics on the left side of the screen, there. The diorama may be more impressive than the figure himself... hahaha.
Base of the figure is a 12" action figure. Apron was made from faux leather, stitched together in sheets by hand with upholstry thread, and stained with paint. The head is made from paper, metal, and wire, and is very sturdy (and heavy!). The completed figure stands 15" tall. While my favorite part is the iconic head, I also managed to perfect a great technique for texturing skin, including a really groovy trick for making open, oozing sores.
I tried something completely different for the Great Knife this time. Usually I carve my miniature weapons out of wood, but this time I used PVC plastic; and I am now sold on it, because I can get much sharper edges and detailed carvings, and its much sturdier and heavier. In fact, this Great Knife is so heavy, PH can't stay standing when he's holding it up!
The diorama is made mostly from wood, with a little chickenwire. Most of the coolness lies in th painting techniques as it really looks like rusted metal and gore. I'm very proud of it.
